OBS not recording your phone game's sound? 6 fixes
The picture's in OBS, the meters sit still, and your recording is silent. When the game runs on a phone, its sound has a longer way to travel. Here's where it gets lost, in the order to check.
1. Make sure the sound reaches your PC
Before blaming OBS, check that the game plays on the PC at all. Put on the headset your phone's sound should play in.
- You hear the game: the PC has it. The problem is in OBS: go on to fix 2.
- You hear nothing: with Casttit, check the Headset list and the Volume slider. On Android, the phone itself can stay silent: Casttit captures the game's sound, not the speaker.
2. Desktop Audio only hears the Windows default
OBS's Desktop Audio records one device: whatever Windows uses as its default output. If your game plays in a headset that isn't the default, Desktop Audio records silence, even though you hear the game perfectly.
You could make that headset the Windows default, but there's a cleaner way that works whichever device the game plays on: fix 3.
3. Tick Capture Audio on the Window Capture
Since OBS Studio 30.1, a Window Capture can record the sound of the app it captures, on Windows 10 (version 2004 or newer) and Windows 11.
- In OBS, double-click your Window Capture to open its properties. With Casttit, that's the capture of [Casttit.exe]: Casttit Preview.
- Tick Capture Audio. A new meter for it appears in the Audio Mixer.
- Mute Desktop Audio in the Audio Mixer, or you'll record the game twice.
Picture and sound now live in one source, so they move together. The full setup: Set up OBS.
4. On an older OBS: Application Audio Capture
Don't see Capture Audio? You're on an OBS older than 30.1. Download the newest OBS Studio (it installs over your old one and keeps your scenes), or, on OBS 28 to 30.0:
- Under Sources, press + and choose Application Audio Capture (BETA).
- For Window, choose the app that plays the game's sound (with Casttit, any [Casttit.exe] window).
- Set Window Match Priority to match by executable, so it keeps working when the window's title changes.
- Mute Desktop Audio.
5. The meter moves but the recording is silent
- The source is muted. In the Audio Mixer, a red speaker icon next to the source means it's muted. Click it.
- The track isn't recorded. Open Edit → Advanced Audio Properties and check that the game's source is ticked on the track your recording uses (Settings → Output → Recording → Audio Track).
6. The game blocks capture
On Android, apps can choose not to let their sound be captured. Most games allow it; a few don't. If one game stays silent on the PC while others play fine, that game blocks capture.
On iPhone, some games go quiet when the iPhone is in Silent mode. Check the game's own sound settings and Silent mode.
Still silent?

Questions
Why does OBS record my mic but not the game?
Your mic has its own source, but the game's sound only reaches OBS through Desktop Audio (the Windows default device) or through a capture of the app that plays it. If the game plays on another device, Desktop Audio stays silent. Tick Capture Audio on the Window Capture instead.
Why do I hear the game twice in my recording?
Two sources are picking it up, usually Desktop Audio and Capture Audio. Mute Desktop Audio in the Audio Mixer.
Which OBS version has Capture Audio on a Window Capture?
OBS Studio 30.1 or newer, on Windows 10 (version 2004 or newer) or Windows 11. OBS 28 to 30.0 have a separate Application Audio Capture source instead.
